Issue of global warming and Indonesian oil palm plantations

1. The largest global Green House Gas (GHG) emissions that cause global warming come from carbon dioxide (CO2), which reached 92 percent of total global GHG in 2011. 
2. The largest CO2 emitters are contributed by global Fossil Fuel Combustion which accounts for 56 percent, followed by industry (14.7%), agriculture (13.8%), Land Use Change (12.2%) and waste (3.2%). 
3. The top CO2 emitters from fossil fuel combustions are China, USA, India, Russia, Japan, Germany, Iran, Canada, South Korea and the United Kingdom all contributing 52-73 percent of total global CO2 emissions.
4. The largest GHG (equivalent to CO2) emitters from global agriculture are China, Brazil, India, the United States, the European Union and Argentina. They contribute 70 percent of total global agricultural GHG in 2011.
5. Global deforestation occured in countries with non-tropical forests. Whereas in countries with tropical forests net reforestation occured.
6. In terms of various forest indicators, Indonesia forests are still among the world’s top ten countries with the best forests. The Largest global peatland conversion occurred in Australia and Pacific regions and Europe and Russia. 
7. Indonesia is not among the world’s largest GHG emitters whether due to fossil fuel combustions, agriculture, and peatlands. 
8. From the perspective of land cover change under forest definition as adopted by many countries, plantation is not deforestation but rather a type of afforestation. 
9. Oil palm plantations on peatland potentially reduce GHG emissions as compared to peats and secondary peat forest. 
10. Oil palm plantations are part of solution for global  food, energy, environment and economy problems.
